Ways Nintendo F’d Up
I really wanted to be dazzled by Nintendo’s E3 presentation this year. The pre conference announcements really had me going. I woke up blurry eyed and bushy haired ready to be amazed. Turned on my live stream and sat with a confused face for most of the conference. Unfortunately I do think Nintendo dropped the ball this year. Last year Nintendo of America C.O.O. Reggie told us Nintendo was going back to the hard core gamer. So where are the games?
I just don’t get it Nintendo. Where was the announcements that shows the new and exciting games from third parties? Where is Call of Duty? Where is Assassin’s Creed? Where is the new and exciting new IPs that where announced? A Batman game that was released almost a year ago will not draw in the crowds. I don’t want to wave a controller/tablet around for a game I have already played. I want to know the justification for the GamePad and I want to know why I would want to buy the Wii U this holiday. I want to know that all of my favorite games will come to Wii U
Not to be completely negative, Nintendo did show a new Mario and Pikmin game. The Pikmin game looked fun, creative and could include cool ways to us the Wii U GamePad. The Mario game… well, looked like a 2D side scrolling Mario Game. Both games looked great and I’m sure I’ll enjoy the crap out of them but just these two games and a tech demo in Nintendo Land did not do it for me.
ZombiU and why you should care:
One of the most frustrating things for me as a gamer is the lack of attention to games that the hardcore would latch onto. One of the most interesting games of the whole E3 show for me is ZombiU being made by Ubisoft. The game started out with cutesie rabbits game and evolved to a zombie game that has it’s roots in dark souls difficulty and survival horror. You play a survivor of a zombie apocalypse. Once your character dies that’t it and you start another character. Your progress is saved but your inventory and skills do not. The games use of the Wii U bag is innovative and adds to the survivor horror atmosphere. ZombiU is available at launch and should have been a big highlight of the conference. Check out some of the screen shots and ideas shown in the E3 boothP-100: A game that should have been talked about:
Another game that could be found in the depths of the Nintendo booth that should have been highlighted is Platinum’s P-100. The game is centered around you selecting a super hero and then collecting other citizens around you to make a giant super hero mob. With a larger mob you have more options for what the mob can morph into, have more health and deal out more damage. The game looks a little cute for hardcore gamers but has a lot of interesting mechanics for the Wii U GamePad.For me Nintendo needed two more things. An announcement for another hard hitting franchise like Zelda, Star Fox or Metroid and some more proof that my favorite third party games will be coming to Wii U in the future. So far it looks like I won’t be purchasing a Wii U at launch. Hopefully Nintendo will make me eat my words in the near future. I want to have the feeling that I need a Wii U like I felt for the Gamecube when I was a kid. I had my earliest memories of gaming with Nintendo and I want my later ones to be with Nintendo as well.
Enough of my ranting, I’m really interested in what you guys think though! Did you enjoy the Nintendo E3 press conference? Did it make you want a Wii U? Hit us up in the comments.
Bad conference, does not mean bad games or bad hardware.
The wii u launch, is probably the best in console history
Your being unrealistic if you thought any of those franchises would be announced.
It just sounds like you fed into the hype………
At launch I will be getting
mario
pikmin
scribblenauts
p 100
tank tank tank
rayman legends
AT LEAST
thats a full launch
I would agree with you that there are tons of good games coming out at launch. That’s what I was trying to say by the article. There are tons of great games and yet they chose to highlight Nintendo Land for like 15-20 minutes of the conference.
