In order to get Blood Moon Essence, you have to kill the redish pink orbs of light. They look like this.
I’ve only ever seen them in The Forbidden Grove and that was after I killed a couple bosses. I found them on the way to The Lost Temple, which is where the Water Harp Puzzle is. It is also the way you go to face The Ravager Boss.
I’ll also note I’ve ran this area a few times and have only ran into these creatures once. I don’t know if they are supposed to be rare of if I just missed floating pink energy balls the other times I was here. So if you don’t run into them the first time through, try an adventure mode there and see if you get lucky.
