The Outer Worlds Character Creation Preview

The Outer Worlds Character Creation Preview
The Outer Worlds character creation is in-depth, exciting, and full of options to play around with. In our The Outer Worlds Character Creation Preview we showcase the different options available to you when you make your own character at the start of your adventure.

Attributes

Attributes
Your attributes are the backbone of your character. There are three Attributes, Body, Mind, and Personality, each housing two different sub-stats. Each of these impact stats in the game and also various skill checks during conversations and events. Two characters can both choose to prioritize Body, but the Strength and Dexterity aspects of it add entirely different options for your play through.

From experimenting with the base Attributes you can begin working towards a ranged gun build, close-quarters critical hits and damage, there’s a ton of options to play with here, each as exciting and viable as the last.

There’s no right or wrong way to build your character at this level, although we wouldn’t suggest you knock any down to below average for your first play through.

Skills

Skills
The Skills aspect of creating your own character is the most exciting part, there’s just so many options. You can choose to further enhance stats improved by your attributes, dominating in one particular area or skill set, or you can choose to strengthen your characters weaker aspects for a jack-of-all-trades approach.

Melee and ranged combat, dialog skills, tech abilities, leadership, the options available allow you to fine tune a character to suit any play style you can imagine. A suave talking, gun-toting cowboy or a nervously shy and withdrawn pickpocket living in the shadows, and anything in between.

Aptitude

Aptitude
The Aptitude section of The Outer Worlds character creation is the flavor, that extra bit of spice. A fantastic options for RPG fans that enjoy that extra slice of RP, while also serving as a functional feature for character progression.

Each Aptitude offers a brief backstory for your character and also adds some stat bonuses to boot. Maybe you earned your metal as a Food Additive Tester, testing near toxic creations from Halcyon’s greedy corporations, or maybe you filed, un-file, redacted, certified and indexed your way through as a Rank 0 Bureaucraft. Pick one that suits your flavor or one that improves a desired stat, the choice is yours

Appearance

Appearance
The Outer Worlds is primarily a first-person game but that hasn’t stopped Obsidian Entertainment adding a hugely detailed appearance editor. Smashing the randomize button a few times really helps demonstrate the massive array of choices on offer. You can change nearly every aspect imaginable, just be sure to turn off helmets in the options – we wouldn’t want to hide that beautiful face now, would we?
